Man,
that was sooooo cool to see.
I couldn't believe that Danny Boy, Everlast, Kaves (from Lordz of Brooklyn) were on the show last night.
I had no idea they were going to be on there.
I'm in my late 20's and I was staring at the TV lastnight like some starstruck kid.

I guess that answers the question if there is any ill-resent between Serch and the guys from HOP.
Man, I still can't believe this.

Seeing Serch, Everlast, Danny Boy all in the same room.... if only Pete Nice were to peek around the corner and come walking about.
Pete Nice has GOT to make a guest appearance on the show now.

It's funny but I had the same reaction too - I was very excited to see the House of Pain crew make a surprise appearence. I didn't know about the La Coka until I read about it on this board but I've been a fan of House of Pain since their first album produced by Muggs and the House of Pain soundtrack. I also have their second album too.

Watching them on Serch's show was surreal; kind of like some dream. First of all, I hadn't seen Everlast on tv in years. I thought he abandoned the rap game for good when he became a solo artist as Erik Shrody playing guitar. I knew he had serious health issues. Now all of a sudden he appears with Serch as a supporter.

Since when did those two ever acknowledge each other? I don't remember reading or hearing any mention about each other. There were no "shout outs". In fact, I remember seeing the two almost in a fight playing some football game on MTV. I really thought they hated each other. But I was glad to see the mutual respect. Even in the recent issue of Entertainment Weekly, Serch said Everlast had "mad skills". I was even more happy when Everlast said that back in the day there was only House of Pain, Beastie Boys and 3rd Bass ( ! ).  I wonder what Pete ever thought of House of Pain and vice versa. I remember that "Jump Around" came out in 1992 after 3rd broke up. Awesome cameo. I wish they had more screen time.

Does anyone remember when Everlast was a solo artist wearing a suit in a video called "I got the Knack" ? I think he affiliated with Ice T or something. I never knew he was a serious, respected rapper. He has to be good if Serch likes him because Serch is a picky man.

Does anyone know if Everlast practices the Muslim faith ?

Last question for you guys - did they have a bad breakup with Cypress Hill ?

This show is really turning it on with the guests. Great work on Serch's part! I can't believe no ones mentioned Kool Keith on the show either! Everlast and Kook Keith both on the same show. They could've stretched that one out over a couple weeks. This show is really delivering truly talented and unique MCs back. None of the current main stream crap that's out there. So fresh to see Keith repping it in the club, and I agree they should've show more from Everlast and La Coca...

Almost forgot to mention Kool Keith. Thanks for reminding me. I didn't recognize him at first but I remember him now from Ultramagnetic MCs. Remember that song, "Two Brothers with Checks, Yo that Caddy's Fly. Sanfrancisco Harvey" ? Almost 15 years later and I still remember that hook.

Well, slightly off but not, House Of Pain (not counting singles or the who's the man EP), did three albums; the first some might call "Fine Malt Lyrics", then 2 "Same As It Ever Was", and 3 "Truth Crushed To Earth Shall Rise Again" (I have it, it came out in 1996). HOP also did one cut not on any of their albums or singles, from The Jerky Boys movie soundtrack called "Beef Jerky". Everlast was a part of "Rhyme Syndicate", which was an Ice-T founded collabo. Everlast had put out his first solo record in 1990 called "Forever Lasting" which did not sound anything like he did throughout the HOP years. I used to have it on cassette, it's some hibby-bibby sounding hiphop if I were to describe it. Not the Everlast most people know.

He never mentioned Serch or the 3rd on there as far as I can remember because I was way into 3rd Bass by the time i'd gotten that tape; I think I found it sometime shortly after Derelicts came out, I don't quite remember as it's been forever ago. "I Got The Knack" is from there. It was definately pre-irish-pride. He wasn't rapping with that rough sounding voice he had with HOP and his lyrical style was way different. If I ever come across that CD perhaps i'll u/l it some time.

Definately curious what La Coka Nostra will sound like. Oh yeah, he did a track with Ice-T when Rhyme Syndicate was together on "The Iceberg: Freedom Of Speech" record, I forget what cut though.

Peace

Yeah, Everlast was only 17 yrs old or so when he was down with the Syndicate.  He rhymed on the posse cut "What Ya Wanna Do?" on Ice T's 3rd record.  I remember him getting respect for being down with them, but his solo album was pretty mediocre....of course he was only 17/18 yrs old.  He actually used one of the same verses from "What Ya Wanna Do?" on "I Got The Knack".

Looks like he and Serch patched things up, but I think LCN was also using the show as an  opportunity to introduce the new group to the world.  I was especially surprised to see Ill Bill show up because I remember he had beef with Serch from early Non Phixion days.  Good to see everyone getting along.

Regarding Pete Nice and Everlast...I think they were cool with each other.  I remember seeing a photo of the two of them, and maybe Kurious, at a function back in '93 or so.  Not sure if Everlast is still a practicing Muslim, but he was.

Great to see Kool Keith...."Critical Beatdown" was a great album.  I just saw where the original Ultramag members dropped a new album a month or two ago.

Kool Keith is dope :)

I was reading La Coka's myspace site..i'm willing to bet they did just use the show as a chance for some media.
I like Everlast and would never say he's not got some mic skills, but what is his deal? I mean take a look at his career after the Rhyme Syndicate. House Of Pain was hardcore, and very up on the Irish-pride kick. Three albums deep. Then he goes solo (again) into this Southern thing, with guitars, and the whole "call me whitey" bit. Three albums deep. Now comes a crew with a spanish name (which I don't mean to sound dumb in asking, but what the hell does "la coka nostra" translate too?) that from what I was hearing, sounds all street hardcore. Now it's the hardcore and evil kick; LCN has a bunch of skulls and an inverted pentagram for their logo.

It's like Everlast has to have a theme behind his music. Being a HOP fan, I got his first return solo "Whitey Ford Sings The Blues". I wanted to hear it and since it had a parental advisory logo, I knew it couldn't all be like "Ends" and "What It's Like". So he does a majority of hiphop on there, and never once mentions Irish anything. He's all up on this respect of god, love of the next man, enjoy life bit. I never heard much of the other two records thereafter so am I missing something? They have even less hiphop and more southern style stuff, that's all I know from having sampled them. Now all that is gone and it's all hardcore with this (are they??) spanish street crew. What's next??

"La Coka Nostra" is just a play on words....from the Italian, "La Cosa Nostra".   LCN translates to "our dope thing"......pretty clever name.

I have Everlast's "Forever Lasting" on cd (his solo album before House of Pain)....
there are a few good songs on there "Fuck Everyone" is pretty decent.

"Beef Jerky" off of the Jerky Boys SDTK and "Punch Drunk" off of the Eddie SDTK were both really good.

With LCN it's funny how many groups Danny Boy was going to be in.... but never happened.
Right after House of Pain ended Danny was going to be in ATF (Alcohol, Tabacco and Firearms.... there were even guitar picks with ATF on one-side and a skull and crossbones on the other)....
then that went nowhere.  No actual album.
Then Danny Boy was going to be in X-Supermodels.... for a while Ryu from Styles of Beyond was a partner (short-lived).  There was an ep that had some songs on it.
Then that got nixed.  No actual album.
Then Danny Boy was going to be in ShotBlockers with Danny Diablo and crew.... a song here and there.... project got nixed.  No actual album.

Now there's LCN with Everlast, Danny (doing more production), Lethal, Kaves (from Lordz of Brooklyn.... and various others.
I just hope that this doesn't turn out the same way as all of the other projects that got nixed in the end.

Yeah, that actually is a pretty cool name.  I'm sure the mob guys won't like it.  It seems like Everlast has this need to keep reinventing himself.   He's a talented guy, so I guess he can do whatever he wants.  He'll always have a fan base.  Whether you were a HOP fan or liked his solo stuff (or both), you know that whatever he puts out is going to be pretty decent.

I remember when Whitey Ford Sings the Blues was 1st announced.
I was a regular member over at Joe's Pub (one of the 1st *but actually the 2nd* House of Pain websites, post break-up).

No one had any idea what that album was going to sound like.  We knew it was going to have more guitars and have a funk style to it.... so we were pretty much thinking it was going to sound like Beef Jerky off of the Jerky Boys STDK.

It was funny that some hip hop sources were calling Everlast a sell out after White Ford got big.... but right when the album came out those same sources were calling it career suicide.  That he couldn't make it as a blues, hip hop, rock star.
They all changed their tune once What it's Like was in heavy rotation and the same with The Ends.

I agree.  D Boy seems to be a pretty creative guy; doing cover art/graphic design.  I think he's the one that came up with the LCN concept.  Pretty sure he won't do much or any rhyming, just Exec. produce; but my take on him is that he's always coming up with new ideas....maybe that's why he's been associated with so many projects.  At one point I heard that he was going to release some of XSM tracks.

I think you can get the majority of them on-line.

If you go on the message board here and ask I'm sure someone will send them to you.
Gero has a great message board - the people are really informative and willing to help out.
