Hallelujah Hollaback !
«

Just saw tonight's episode and Jon Brown stole the show. This show entertains the hell out of me ! From his horrible rapping on Hot 97....to his constant "Hallelujah Hollaback" and his belief in his own b.s.....this guy is a piece of work. I'm convinced he brainwashed himself. Ever notice that long wide stare when he's talking ? He had the last laugh though by not getting voted off.
I feel sorry for Persia but Serch made the right decision. I think the dude from Atlanta is the best out of the three.
By the way, I hate Hot 97. They never gave Pete Nice any airplay when he released Dust to Dust.

I agree John Brown's stare is disturbing. Have you noticed how small his eyes are? I guess that's why he wears those shades a lot. Anyway, so Miss Jones of Hot 97 mentions that she wants to talk about beef. John Brown says like y'all & Clear Channel. As much as I can't stand John Brown, other than giving Clear Channel a free plug, there's nothing wrong with him saying that. She wanted to talk about beef so he brought one up & didn't know they're in litigation with each other.
It's obvious Serch did not want Persia to leave. She messed up then Jus Rhyme does his thing, then Serch gives her another chance & she refuses to spit. Well, she asked for it, but I also did not want her to go.

I agree with you, Jericho. The show is freakin hilarious. It's reality t.v. at it's finest. John Brown has some serious issues, but he at least seems disciplined and willing to do what it takes to win. John Brown also looks bi-racial to me, not white. Does that count? :-P Persia had some skills, but she choked almost everytime she went into the elimination round. Serch gave her so many chances, but she could never remember her rhymes. How are you going to be a rapper if you can't remember your rhymes?! Shamrock is definitely the best out of the final 3. He should win the $100,000. He also seems the most down to earth out of the finalists. Jus Rhyme is likable, but his skills as an M.C. are questionable. I thought Miss Jones from Hot 97 over-reacted. It seems like John Brown beat her at her own game. Ghetto Revival, baby.

When the show started, I was thinking it would come down to Persia and Sullee; now I guess Shamrock will probably win. Of course, I could see John Brown taking it too......love him or hate him, you're definitely going to remember him. He always seems to step up to the plate too. Jus Rhyme's heart's in the right place, but his skills don't really seem up to par. I didn't realize Miss Jones was a dj at Hot 97 - remember when she sang the hook on Sugar Hill w/AZ?

I've been thinking the same thing.

He definitely has an "ethnic" look. But, whether he's bi-racial, Jewish, or whatever, he is still part white so I guess he qualifies for the "white rapper show".

No matter what John Brown is the kidd is straight wack. He doesn' know his history or seem to even know most of the time what the hell he's talking about. Persia shoulda punched him in his face. If he wins the show I dont know how many people will wanna tune back in for a season 2.

Well like Jericho said, John Brown is, if nothing else, entertaining! Whether you like him or not, he has made a name for himself with his ridiculous mantras and cocky behavior. As far as Persia goes, it seems like John Brown got the best of her because she choked, got kicked off, and he's still on the show. I still think $hamrock should win it. And, I hope there is a season 2 (with Serch, of course). I'll be the first one tuning in.

John Brown doesn't know the definition of the term "suburban" or "ghetto" the way he uses them. Does he even know what a suburb is!!?? Sad thing is that could be a pretty fresh take if he embrased the suburbs and had fun with it, but he still tries to come off gansta, man. crap.
Persia is just way immature, she's obviously never stepped in front of a crowd of any size, that's the way i acted when I'd screw up in 2nd grade piano lessons. It's sad, she's just never had any kind of training or mild pressure to say the least to deal with in front of an audience. And that, makes her whole gansta thing wack because she just can't stand the heat. Not to mention her having a heart attack just because she had to run a few blocks, they should've given her crap for that. Talk about what's wrong with America, get some exercise or don't go around wearin wife beaters :) She's literally never walked at more than a slow pace probably. Sorry, but it's true.
Hot 97 was soooo embarrasing for all 4 contestants, good challenge though. None of them stepped it up.
Once again it's Serch and Prince Paul bringing all the entertainment. Serch is phenominal in his commentary, very articulate and still with street cred. Just great. The best thing that can happen to this show is that it gets picked up for another season and we get some varied and more true school talented MCs in there, not this ghetto crap.
The kid from Atlanta is pretty good though, AND he has a sense of humor about himself, so that's nice too to see him cracking up at his rhymes. He was by far the best.

I agree with your assessment about Serch and Prince Paul. I think Serch has done an excellent job as host. He is perfect for the job! Also, each "contestant" has brought their own form of entertainment and different personalities to the show which has made each episode interesting and unique. I do take issue with your comment about "ghetto crap", however. Let's not forget that hip hop and rap comes from the ghetto!!!!!

Now I know to be a dope and a real MC you have be able to freestyle. But man thats a lot of pressure to put on the contestants. I have heard rap legends (i.e. method man) who declined to freestyle on hot 97 years ago and passed the mic to that little kid from wu tang (Shyheem I think). Bottom line is even if shamrock or Brown or Persia freestyled well, Miss Jones would of still shit on them because thats what she does.
Im just happy Jusryme was kicked off, he was ridiculously embarrassing with his ultra liberal on the jock of black people, I will not drink or get a lap dance beacuse I have girlfriend, PHD, crazy eyes, wack rapping, getting cut off by NORE ass.

I apologize for the "ghetto crap" statement. It'd be better stated as the "Thug Mentality." It just bothers me that hip hop is about how hard you are, and doesn't have fun any more. Even when NWA came out the beats were funky and the rhymes were creative and fun. Now it's all about bling and repping the ghetto as hard as possible. That's what bothers me about the ghetto slang these kids use. It's not really authentic, and they don't seem to have a sense of humor about themselves which is key. I just wish hip hop would bring some creativity back (I.E. Prince Paul!) and lose this serious thug imitation.

Just to comment on the last episode:
I actually learned something about freestyles and battles. I think these guys had guts to get on the stage and take that risk to their dignity. Jus Rhyme was horrible in a funny way but that was his dream so he pursued it. A life in academia is overrated in my book.
I was surprised that Jon Brown held is own. It's not meant to be perfect so I forgive Shamrock for blanking on stage.
Serch said something to the effect that to be a good rapper you have to freestyle. So then I wonder, would Pete Nice survive one of these rap battles in Detroit ? We all know he is a great writer and artist but if he can't freestyle that well, in Serch's eyes, does that make him any less of a rapper?
I thought the ending of the show when Jus Rhyme stepped off was very funny. You had Kid Rock giving words of encouragement saying he got dropped from so many labels and then finally, "Step Off !".

I agree that the "Thug Life" mentality is getting old. I, too, wish that hip hop would return to the days when it was just about a great beat, having fun, and talking trash. Although I do listen to some "gansta" rap, I feel that as a whole, it gives rap music and music in general a bad name. I don't care so much about people using slang (because that's how the younger generation talks), but people need to know when to turn it on and off and how to speak proper and appropriately when necessary. I definitely prefer the hip hop of the 80's and 90's to what is being produced today. Of course, I am in my 30's, so I guess my views are a bit "old fashioned", but I would love to see some of the newer talent follow the example of some of the old school rappers like Sugarhill, LL, 3rd Bass, Eric B & Rakim, etc.
