They picked the rappers that would make the best "characters" on the show, they probably denied alot of cats with real rappin skills cuz they wouldn't be as easy to fuck with/clown on like they do on the show.

I'm sure theres also plenty of skilled rappers that passed this up because its a reality TV show, and if you wanna be taken seriously as an artist, reality TV is just somthin you dont do.

I agree....

However, Dasit was pretty good.
I've listened to some of his stuff on myspace, not bad at all.

these aren't the best. It's obvious they had a limited casting call. Hopefully there's a season 2, and we see some more varied talent from across the country. There's a lot better out there.

See the thing is....
I don't think the show is looking for the next best lyricist/ freestyler/ battle mc....

I like that stuff, but those guys don't usually have the best albums....
Prime, Juice, Supernatural?, Eyedea.....
these guys are great a freestyles/ battling/ punchlines.... etc.
But when it came to putting out an album?  Splat.
Nowhere.
maybe they weeded the strong lyricists out right away.
It was funny when they were doing tracks (on TWRS) because none of the guys seemed interested in the lyrical content (Shamrock, Jon Boy, Jus Rhyme, John Brown).... they seemed more interested in a hook and a beat.
Nothing wrong with that..... but I don't know many strong lyricists that are like.
"Hey, let's get to the studio and make a killer chorus".

Its kind of like the NBA in some ways, you know their are some better ball players on the street.  Nobody should think that this is the best white mcees have to offer.  And it is certainly true that the best freestylers that I can remember never make a peep when it comes to records and sales.  I guess Craig G from the Juice Crew era had some success but other than that I can think of no one else.
