In Serch's latest Myspace blog he claims that he still couldn't care less about Paris Hilton - however, he did have 19 televisions tuned into her prison release coverage and counted the minutes she appeared on the screen - awwwww, sounds like somebody has a crush.
Greetings:
As always I hope this blog finds you in good health and spirits.
Well I got so many responses to my blog on Paris that I thought I would follow up with part two, or since we are talking about Paris, part deux. I tried not to care but Paris getting out of jail was such a media circus that I decided to watch and figure out how much time the networks used on her. Like KRS-ONE Says "Let us begin/not with the why where when/ it will all be explained like instructions to a game" (My Philosopy for those who don't recognize the line):
Fox: Both cable and their affiliates did front stories on her release. So instead of other events that might have been crucial to our communities we follow Paris down her runway to the arms of her mother. Fox has news affiliates in every major city, not to mention their cable networks which also used their valuable time to show the smiling, make up free Paris running and shaking her fans hands, some of them crying with joy that she was released.
TOTAL TIME USED BY FOX ON PARIS: Lead story on 30 minutes news shows: 5 minutes 5 minutes times (I don't know like 200 stations) = 1,000 minutes
ABC: Also has equal amount of local affiliates plus their Good Morning America show did two, that's right folks, two segments on her being released. One was a news story that ran every time they cut to top of the hour news and a second about what Paris is going to do now that she is out, complete with background stories of her writings in prison, and her visitors. Late night host Jimmy Kimmel did something like a Paris watch and countdown and even had her BFF Nicole Ritchie on to talk about how she did not visit her in jail. TOTAL TIME USED BY ABC ON PARIS: Lead story on 30 minutes news show times 5 minutes 5 minutes times 200 stations Total 1,000 minutes. Jimmy Kimmel and Good Morning America Time Total 1,110 minutes
NBC: Today show did three, count them, three segments on Paris getting out including their lead story at the top of every hour. NBC has the largest amount of news affiliates, which means they are in like 98 percent of households in the country. I do not have the time to figure out how many stations they have, so I decided in fairness to give them an extra 100 over FOX and ABC. TOTAL TIME USED BY NBC ON PARIS Lead story on 30-minute news shows: 5 minutes 300 stations times 5 minutes TOTAL 1,500 minutes
CBS: The eye had its eye on Paris for the least amount of time. All of their TV stations however did a Paris release as a lead story. The eye also has the least amount of stations, so instead of counting them I just minused 50 stations. David Letterman did a top ten countdown on what Paris will do when she is released so that is an additional 5 minutes. TOTAL TIME CBS SPENT ON PARIS five-minute lead story plus, like 150 stations Plus David Letterman 10 minutes TOTAL: 760 minutes
Talk shows and Entertainment shows
All the major shows, including ET, Extra, Access Hollywood, E Television, the View, Ellen, Best Week Ever, The Insider, as well as all cable outlets like MSNBC, CNN, did five to ten minute segments. So in order of fairness I did a rough guestamit on the total amount of time plus stations carrying these shows
Total number of show doing Paris release: about 100 shows Average time of coverage: approximately ten minutes TOTAL: 1,000 minutes
Rough total of minutes showing Paris Hilton being released from Jail
ABC 1,110 NBC 1,500 CBS 760 FOX 1,000 TALK 1,000
GRAND TOTAL: APPROX. 5,370 minutes
To put things in perspective, total hours spent on Paris is 895 hours total
That's right on Friday the networks spent on one day, the equivalent of 38 days and some change with coverage on Paris Hilton. In the same amount of time based on national statistics, the following happened:
1,074 people died in the US of starvation 767 women were beaten or raped 3,000 people died in Darfur 1342 Children were taken from their homes or parents or molested 475 people died from aids, because our country will not give them health care 593 lost their homes because of lack of work or loss of their jobs due to downsizing 950 People were murdered in the US
The news stations covered none of these things. All of these voices went unheard because the networks thought it was more important to watch Paris take 29 steps (Counted by Access Hollywood) to freedom. Oh by the way in the same amount of time
791 people were locked up by a corrupt judicial system for nothing more then misdemeanors and they got a lot more time then 895 hours. My wife Chantel and I like to use a term. It's called "Really".
Really…Realllly. Are we as a country that is so worried about a rich, spoiled female so much that we lose track of what's really important. What really matters? To care and protect our communities by focusing on neighborhoods that is being over run by drug dealers, or child molesters that take our children's innocence. Really? Paris is that important to our country. Mind you, she has not done anything, well, if you count getting drunk, naked, annoying, dancing on tables, doing something, then she has done a lot.
I really tried not to care. I really tried not to notice. As you can tell by my very rough stats, it was hard not to. I was forced into it. I had no choice. I am assuming that you had no choice as well. If you were watching TV that day then you caught a glimpse.
Oh by the way, I did not include the time it took all the editors, camera men, script writers, on air personalities, to get ready for the release. I mean one show had Helicopters to hover over the 29 steps. Another TV show followed around the Paris entourage as they prepared for her release. Really? Really. It makes me sick. What does it do for you?
Love is love Serch
