20th Anniversary of the Cactus Album
«
on:

Serch wants his fans to help convice Def Jam to issue a 20th Anniversary digital re-mastered version of the Cactus Album.
This will be the official section of the website for everyone to be heard. I'm going to let MistaJohn take the helm of this section since in the music industry he has more pull than I do.
Let's make this happen!

I thought they did remaster it? There was the original CD release that was labeled DefJam/Columia and the top the disc was green with black letters. Then there was a 2nd release much later that was only labeled "Def Jam" and the disc was just silver with black letters, and this release had a parental advisory logo printed on the front cover whereas the other didn't.
Still, i'm all for it. Modern audio technologies couldn't do anything but improve an already essential hiphop record. Personally, I wish it were possible to remaster Derelicts or Dust To Dust. Ah well. If anything goes down, i'll be here for it.

You know, I thought about all of this last night at work for a good while.
I fear all of this may be in vain. You see, you have to consider that we're dealing with Universal. They of course care nothing about music or it's value short of money of course. I hope the petition puts the idea in their head, but really, for the petition to be effective, wouldn't it require more than 10, 20, or even 200 names before they'd take it remotely serious? If Serch is pushing for it in anyway, that's a big help, but still.
I just feel like were the irrelevant little guy trying to get the big corporate giant to pay us any attention and even do us a favor. I hope the petition at least gets the idea in someone's head somewhere and, knowing of course their decision will be based on how much money they would have to put forth to make this happen vs. what they'd make, that they see positive numbers.
I signed the petition a few minutes ago. Could you imagine hearing The Cactus record remastered to current standards of sound quality? My system would be bangin' that disc for at least a week straight :)
Here's hopin'. Thanks again, sincerely, for the effort MistaJohn. Growing up, I always wondered if there was anyone else in the world who loved the 3rd as much as I. Guess so!

Whaddup Queue,
It will take a few thousand signatures to get Universal's attention - and probably 50,000+ units in sales for a reissue to be viable... which sounds like an extreme uphill battle - BUT - you have to remember that we've got the power of the Internet on our side and the stage of a "flat world" - it is possible.
I would love to see us reach our goal of a reissue - if we fall short, we still are getting people to consider 3rd Bass again and honoring the 20th anniversary of the album. If we don't reach the label execs, we may reach the 15-year-old who never heard of The Third, the guy in India who's just getting into hip-hop or our peers who forgot about the group. This campaign is a vehicle to resurrect interest in 3rd Bass.
When Disgruntled and I talked about the initiative last week we realized - Hey, 3rd Bass fans finally have a purpose! .. which is funny, but true.

Bringing interest to the third? Being that there has never been a group in any genre of music that I value higher than the 3rd (though PE comes g'damn close), it's my pleasure.
I do it whenever hiphop is discussed anywhere, for any reason. Besides, it's our job as the older generation to show the youth who the fuckin' rap Primeminister is!
Good work MistaJ. Truly, excellent work.

I think, and this is just MY opinion: The Cactus Album needs to be remastered/re-released, as a 2 disc.
Think about it: The entire "Cactus Album", plus, some b sides from the disc,(extra tracks from either TCA, or DOD), and..... for the 2nd disc:
the "Cactus Revisited" disc, in it's entirety?

That'd be the ultimate outcome Phoenix. Damn straight.
Even if they just released TCA by itself, having it truly remastered for the highest possible sound resolution by todays standards, would make that even more of a pleasure to drop into the system.
Hell, why not fantasize all the way? Let's just release a box set with all of the 3rd Bass albums, plus the solo albums and singles, completely remastered and repackaged as one complete project. Now THAT would definately be amazing.

You know what would be kind of cool? If they did actually remaster the original CD, And it came with the cactus video but on DVD.

Yep, and add some of the 12" mixes, as part of the first disc? Or, do a 3 disc version: TCA(w/b sides/12" mixes)/TCR/ 3rd disc: TCV?
